Sept 21, 2013: Allied Arts & Seattle Design Festival
A Walking Tour of the Past, Present & Promise of the Future of Pioneer Square
Design Block – Occidental & Jackson Street
The Pioneer Square of the Past tour segment was led by Jim Kelly, Executive Director of 4Culture, who took participants to historic places and buildings in Seattle’s first neighborhood, preserved as a result of activism by Allied Arts and many other stakeholder partners who helped save and develop Pioneer Square.
The Pioneer Square of Today segment was led by Kevin Daniels of Daniels Development Company, who discussed the District’s revitalization efforts including the Alley Project, business recruitment and residential development.
A portion of the tour occurred from the newest scenic vantage point: NOLO Tower in the North Lot.
The Promise of the Future of Pioneer Square segment was led by Maggie Walker, Co-Chair of the Central Waterfront Committee, who discussed the Waterfront Project as we walk from Railroad Avenue toward the Ferry Dock, identifying actions required to achieve the vision and mechanisms necessary to implement these concepts while participants tour key sites along the route.
The tour terminated at the “Mind Wall” in the Design Block for an interactive exercise where participants expressed their dreams or visions on how to achieve the Promise of the Future of Pioneer Square.
Many Thanks to our Tour Guides for donating their time to support this event!
